Interviewing the Professionals - Part 6

Meet Isaac, Junior Web Developer for a Digital Agency based in Sussex

What is your job title?

Junior Web Developer

How long have you worked for the business?

6 months – I ‘m fairly new.

What is the best thing about your job?

My company are pretty good at embracing new technologies, so means I get to experiment with different packages and software’s. The people are also great and we have good fun.. whilst working hard of course!

Give us a brief summary of your career so far..

I graduated a year ago with a degree in Media Technologies. After Uni I went travelling for a few months. I was fortune enough to come back and find this job.

When you were growing up, what did you want to be and why?

I have always been quite techy minded. When I was really little I wanted to be an astronaut. But all through Uni I knew Web Development was for me.

What do you think are the key skills from your past that enabled you to get the job you have today?

I learnt a lot at Uni (guess that is the main point), but I also got involved in projects and web development outside of studying. This gave me real hands on experience – and looked great on my CV.

What advice do you have for someone looking to start a career in Web Development?

Do as much as you can to stand out from the crowd… there are a lot of other graduates out there looking for work. The extra web development work I did outside of Uni was definitely a bonus.

If you could tell your younger self anything, what would it be?

Ha that’s a tough one as I am still pretty young(ish), but it would probably be to work harder at School!
